PETCORE EUROPE's Thermoforms Conference 2025

SAVE the date 27 & 28 May to meet up with experts and PET Thermoforms industry leaders at our Thermoforms Conference 2025 “PET Thermoforms Circularity: How can collection and sorting of PET Thermoforms be improved?” that will be held in France, Dijon & Beaune. The registration will be open in March 2025, stay updated and check our website.

PETCORE EUROPE Thermoforms Working Group was launched in June 2015, comprises more than 80 companies and organizations including key players from industry and waste management. Since then a number of events have been organized: online workshops on Recycling PET Thermoforms in 2019, Thermoforms Conference 2023 in Italy & 2024 in Spain.

PETCORE EUROPE is now focused on helping the value chain to reach the PPWR targets of 55% for collection, sorting and recycling and 30% recycled content for the PET thermoforms.

The first day of the event will feature the presentations from all the major experts in the field of thermoforms, followed by panel discussions with the guests from the industry. Also, high-level speakers will join us to explain the goals & expectations of the European Commission for the PET trays.  On the second day PETCORE EUROPE will organize a visit to one of the most sophisticated Sorting Plants that shows how efficient PET thermoforms collection and sorting can be.

This physical event will have a special focus on thermoforms collection and sorting of PET thermoforms as a first key step towards circularity. We will also showcase PETCORE EUROPE Thermoforms WG’s initiatives: Tray Circularity Evaluation Platform (TCEP), Functional Barrier (FB) task Force, Standardization efforts for design for recycling and recyclability evaluations in connection with PPWR. We will also discuss recyclability scoring which is provisioned in the PPWR.

Last but not least we will give a floor to innovators with projects that have some potential to help thermoforms circularity. PETCORE EUROPE is calling the interested stakeholders to submit one-pager summary papers to eduard.zagan@petcore-europe.org and maria.trofimova@petcore-europe.org before the 31st of March 2025. PETCORE EUROPE will review papers and confirm which innovations will be invited to present by April 18th.

Below a non-exhaustive list of relevant topics:

  • Innovations in relation with AI
  • Innovations in relation with traceability of recycled content
  • Innovations in relation with recycled PET quality improvement
  • Innovations in relation with recycled PET analytics

About Petcore Europe

Petcore Europe is the association representing the complete PET value chain in Europe since 1993.

Its mission is to ensure that the entire PET industry is well aligned to enhance its value and sustainable growth, to represent the PET industry before the European institutions and other stakeholders, to ensure that PET is positioned as an outstanding packaging material and recognised as environmentally sound, to support and validate innovative packaging solutions from a recycling perspective, and to work with all interested parties to ensure a continuous increase of PET post-consumer collection and recycling.

PET (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) is a strong but lightweight form of polyester. It is used to make containers for soft drinks, juices, drinks, water, edible oil, fresh food and dairy as well as household cleaners and other non-food applications. PET bottles and food containers, such as sheets and trays are perfectly recyclable while they help to reduce CO2 emissions and food waste.
